Jonathan Roy charged with assault

MONTREAL — The son of legendary hockey NHL goaltender Patrick Roy was charged Thursday with assaulting a rival during a Quebec Major Junior Hockey League playoff game last March.
Quebec Remparts goaltender Jonathan Roy, 19, faces one count of assault against Chicoutimi Sagueneens netminder Bobby Nadeau. He returns to court Sept. 16.

Stamkos signs on with Lightning
VICTORIA — The Tampa Bay Lightning signed first overall pick Steven Stamkos to a three-year, entry-level contract Tuesday.
“I know it’s not going to be easy for me to step in right away,” said the 18-year old moments after putting pen to paper at a news conference at the Bear Mountain resort just outside Victoria.
“Hopefully I can earn my stripes and play well and really deserve to be there,” added the Markham, Ont., native.

Avalanche make a deal with Svatos

DENVER — The Colorado Avalanche signed forward Marek Svatos to a two-year contract, avoiding an arbitration hearing Friday.
Svatos scored 26 goals last season despite missing the final 16 games with a torn knee ligament. He tied Wojtek Wolski for the club lead with six game-winning goals.

Bouwmeester re-ups with Panthers

SUNRISE, Fla. — The Florida Panthers agreed to terms on a one-year deal with defenceman Jay Bouwmeester on Monday.
“We are pleased to have reached an agreement with Jay,” Panthers general manager Jacques Martin said in a statement. “He has played an important role on our team over the last five seasons, logging significant ice time while contributing at both ends of the ice.

NHLPA take issue with IIHF suspensions

TORONTO — The NHL Players Association isn’t happy that hockey’s international governing body has suspended the contracts of six players.
The International Ice Hockey Federation announced Friday that the transfers of Alex Radulov and five others are officially under investigation.

Ex-Leaf Wozniewski signs with Blues

ST. LOUIS — The St. Louis Blues have added some depth to their blue-line by signing free-agent defenceman Andy Wozniewski.
Contract details weren’t immediately available.
The 28-year-old spent last season with the Toronto Maple Leafs and had nine points (2-9) in 48 games. He also spent time with the AHL Marlies.

Straka signs with former Czech club

PRAGUE, Czech Republic — Martin Straka signed a one-year contract Thursday with his former Czech club.
Straka, who played for the New York Rangers the last three seasons after joining the NHL in 1992, will also take the post of manager-general for HC Lasselsberger Plzen, the club said on its website.
