While Detroit is settled, Pens facing change
PITTSBURGH — It seems hardly fair, but it’s the Stanley Cup runners-up that have the off-season from hell. The NHL champions are pretty much all set for next season.
The Pittsburgh Penguins face many questions as they try to keep together a core that was the class of the Eastern Conference this season.
“Yes, it’s going to be a challenge for (GM) Ray Shero to keep our team together,” said part-owner Mario Lemieux.

Young Pens shut down in Game 1
DETROIT — It’s one thing for Evgeni Malkin to be shut out on the scoreboard. But when the Pittsburgh Penguins star is also helping the other team score, than you know it’s been a bad night.
Malkin’s turnover right in front of his own net 2:16 into the third period led to Mikael Samuelsson’s back-breaking, 2-0 goal Saturday night and capped what was a forgettable night for the Russian centre in Detroit’s 4-0, Game 1 victory in the Stanley Cup final.

Crosby, Pens to face big Broadway test

PITTSBURGH — With the exception of the Stanley Cup final, this is about as big a showcase as the NHL could give Sidney Crosby so early in his playoff career.
