Leafs GM Fletcher likes look of team
TORONTO — It’s been six months since Toronto Maple Leafs GM Cliff Fletcher had to helplessly watch the NHL’s trade deadline pass by without being able to shake up his lineup.
On that February afternoon, he made a passionate promise that major changes were still coming. With training camp and a new season now fast approaching, it’s fair to say the veteran hockey executive made good on his word.

Sportsnet to broadcast 28 Leafs games
TORONTO — Rogers Sportsnet Ontario has the most Hockey That Matters to fans of the Toronto Maple Leafs.
The Blue and White make their 2008-2009 Sportsnet Ontario and Sportsnet HD regular season debut on Friday, October 17 at 7 p.m. ET when they hit Broadway to face the New York Rangers at Madison Square Garden.

Leafs set to trade McCabe to Panthers

Sportsnet’s Nick Kypreos has learned that the Toronto Maple Leafs and the Florida Panthers have a deal in principle to trade defenceman Bryan McCabe.
Sources say that as part of the deal, the Leafs would get Panthers defenceman Mike Van Ryn.

Leafs bring in Wilson’s old assistants

TORONTO — Tim Hunter and Rob Zettler have joined the Toronto Maple Leafs as assistant coaches, the team announced Tuesday.
The pair, who join assistant Keith Acton on head coach Ron Wilson’s staff, worked together the past five seasons with Wilson in San Jose.

Sportsnet to air Leafs in pre-season

Rogers Sportsnet will broadcast the first of the Toronto Maple Leafs’ nine pre-season games this season.
The Leafs will open their exhibition season Sept. 22 against the Buffalo Sabres at the Air Canada Centre, a game for which the Leafs have made all tickets available for free.

Banner night opens Leafs 08/09 season

Saturday night games once again dominate the Maple Leafs schedule with Toronto playing 23 times on Saturday (16 at home and seven on the road). The Maple Leafs do not have any home games scheduled for Friday and Sunday in the upcoming season.

Leafs trade pick for Rangers’ Hollweg

TORONTO — The Toronto Maple Leafs acquired winger Ryan Hollweg from the New York Rangers on Monday for a 2009 fifth-round draft pick.
Hollweg, 25, had four points (2-2) and 96 penalty minutes in 70 games for the Rangers.

Gilmour may leave Leafs to be a coach

Doug Gilmour would love to re-invent himself as an NHL coach, but he will most likely need to leave the Toronto Maple Leafs in order to do so.
As reported in Thursday’s Toronto Sun, Leafs GM Cliff Fletcher acknowledged that the right fit for Gilmour may not be in the Blue and White, though the team would try to keep him in some capacity.
