Heatley makes mark in Canadian win

HALIFAX — It’s only one game into the IIHF World Hockey Championship and Dany Heatley has already found a pretty cool souvenir.
He’ll be taking a puck back to his home in Ottawa after passing Marcel Dionne to become Canada’s all-time leading scorer at this event. The second of three goals he scored during a 5-1 win over Slovenia put him in the record books on Friday.

Canada adds Heatley, Spezza for worlds

QUEBEC — Ken Hitchcock doesn’t have to think back very far to remember a time when things weren’t this good.
He was an assistant coach on the Canadian team at the 2002 IIHF World Hockey Championship when more than 60 players declined an invitation to represent their country. GM Lanny McDonald ended up having to turn to European-based players just to field a team at the event in Sweden.
