Habs sign minor league d-man Anderson

MONTREAL — The Montreal Canadiens signed minor-league defenceman Chad Anderson to a one-year contract, the club announced Wednesday.
Anderson, a 26-year-old free agent, signed a two-way contract and will likely play for the Hamilton Bulldogs next season. The six-foot-four, 217-pound blue-liner played for the AHL Philadelphia Phantoms last season, where he had two goals and 11 assists and was plus-11.

Charges dropped against Habs’ O’Byrne

MONTREAL — Charges levied against a Montreal Canadiens defenceman following an incident at a Tampa Bay nightclub last February have been dropped.
Ryan O’Byrne, 24, had been charged with grand theft.

Laraque heads home to play with Habs

MONTREAL — The Montreal Canadiens have signed veteran tough guy Georges Laraque to a US$4.5-million, three-year contract and also added some depth in goal with Marc Denis.
The six-foot-three, 243-pound Laraque returns home to Montreal, joining a team that hasn’t had a true heavyweight in a few years.

MONTREAL — Coach Guy Carbonneau doesn’t expect to be hauled off by the men in white coats just for insisting his fading Montreal Canadiens can still win their playoff series with the Philadelphia Flyers.

Ryder remains healthy scratch for Habs

PHILADELPHIA — It has been a challenging year for Montreal Canadiens forward Michael Ryder.
The 28-year-old from Bonavista, N.L., struggled with just 14 goals in the regular season and was a healthy scratch for a fifth straight playoff game Monday.

Habs grinders gain coach’s confidence

MONTREAL — The Montreal Canadiens are known for their speed and skill, but for Guy Carbonneau it’s his grinders who have been at their best in the playoffs.
Tom Kostopoulos was the overtime hero in Game 1 after his linemates Bryan Smolinski and Steve Begin worked hard on the forecheck, and the goal was an example of what the Canadiens supposed checking line has been offering the coach on a regular basis.

Bruins rally to send Habs to Game 7
