Roy says no to coaching Avalanche
As reported in the Denver Post late Thursday night, Roy does want to coach in the NHL at some point, probably when his younger son, Frederick, leaves junior hockey. Frederick Roy, 17, a center, played five games for the Remparts this past season but is expected to play a larger role next season. Roy’s older son, Jonathan, 19, has played goalie for the Remparts the last two seasons.

“When Fred is done, it will be different,” Roy said. “But this is OK with me for now.”

The Post reports that with Roy no longer under consideration, the Avs are expected to continue looking at potential candidates such as Portland (Maine) Pirates coach Kevin Dineen and Detroit Red Wings assistant Todd McLelland, with Pat Burns and Ron Wilson also out there as more experienced candidates.

Dineen and McLelland both are with teams still in their respective playoffs, so a formal interview with either man probably would have to wait until their seasons are finished.
