
As reported in the Denver Post late Thursday night, Roy does want to coach in the NHL at some point, probably when his younger son, Frederick, leaves junior hockey. Frederick Roy, 17, a center, played five games for the Remparts this past season but is expected to play a larger role next season. Roy’s older son, Jonathan, 19, has played goalie for the Remparts the last two seasons.

DETROIT — Detroit centre Johan Franzen will miss his fourth straight game when the Red Wings face Dallas in Game 5 of the Western Conference final Saturday.
Detroit general manager Ken Holland says Franzen has been cleared for light workouts. But Holland says Franzen would need to practise with the team for a few days before returning to the lineup.

DALLAS — This is how ridiculously good the Detroit Red Wings are playing: They lose the NHL’s top scorer this post-season and their regular-season scoring leader steps up with the first hat trick of his entire career while one of his linemates scores a demoralizing short-handed goal.
Pavel Datsyuk scored twice in the first period and again with 2:41 left, and Henrik Zetterberg added two assists and the short-hander, sending Detroit past the Dallas Stars 5-2 Monday night for a 3-0 lead in the Western Conference finals.

VOORHEES, N.J. — Philadelphia Flyers defenceman Braydon Coburn is doubtful for Game 3 of the Eastern Conference finals after taking a puck in the face on Sunday night.
Coburn’s left eye was swollen shut after a deflected puck hit him early in the Flyers’ 4-2 loss at Pittsburgh on Sunday. There was no structural damage to his face, but the blow opened a cut that required over 50 stitches to close.

BOSTON — A career year for Bruins forward Chuck Kobasew has been rewarded. The Boston Bruins signed the Osoyoos, B.C. native to a multi-year contract extension. Terms of the deal were not disclosed, as per club policy.

HALIFAX — Eric Staal has left the Canadian team at the IIHF World Hockey Championship after the death of his grandfather.
He travelled back to Thunder Bay, Ont., today and will attend the funeral Wednesday.

HALIFAX — The Americans weren’t a happy lot Monday and they took their frustration out on an overmatched Norwegian team.
One day removed from a tough 3-2 loss to Finland, the United States wrapped up its qualifying round schedule by scoring three times in each period for a 9-1 pounding of Norway at the IIHF World Hockey Championship.

DETROIT — Johan Franzen, who leads all NHL playoff scorers with 12 goals, is out of the Red Wings lineup indefinitely.
Franzen sat out Game 2 of the Western Conference final Saturday night with concussion-like symptoms, and his team since he would not make the trip for Dallas and Game 3 Monday night.
